Medusa's wedding dress is upstaged by the Kree and Skrull? That designer's so fired...

This issue turned up in the garage, so here's a quick look at Fantastic Four Annual #18, "Something Old, Something New" Plot by John Byrne (with an uncredited bit from Chris Claremont!) and script by Mark Gruenwald, pencils by Mark Bright, inks by Mark Gustovich. Raksor the Skrull and Bel-Dann the Kree were sent to observe the trial-by-combat of the Phoenix, and instead ended up duking it out for several months. The two are more than evenly matched, between the Skrull's shape-changing abilities and the Kree's technology.

Finally, the Watcher intervenes, although not because he's sick of them fighting in his backyard, but because he's been getting messages from the Kree and Skrull empires. The empires are also stalemated, and decide to let single combat decide the victor of their war. (How that would actually work is anyone's guess, and probably not especially well thought through.) Both soldiers are up for it, even though neither seems to wonder how they're going to win when they haven't been able to kill the other yet.

Their battle ends up damaging part of the Inhumans' city Attilan, recently relocated to the Blue Area of the Moon, during Black Bolt and Medusa's wedding day. After consulting with the Watcher, Reed has an idea:

Together, the Royal Family of the Inhumans and the FF beat Raksor and Bel-Dann, forcing the two to work together to fight back. They defeat the earthlings handily, and the Watcher declares them both winners, sending them back to their respective empires. Of course, that was a ruse made possible by the Invisible Woman's force fields: no one was really hurt. Taking a dive to get rid of the Kree and Skrull seems like a good idea, but aren't they going to look like chumps the next time the FF or Inhumans show up? Well, maybe all earthlings look alike to them.

Raksor the Skrull wears a pretty standard Skrull uniform, while Bel-Dann's is blue rather than the Marvel Legend's green. Bel-Dann also has a sunburst chest logo and a goatee to further differentiate himself, but he's a pretty standard pink Kree guy.

It's both kinda funny and fucked up they were stuck fighting like that. It'd be even worse if it was revealed that they were STILL go at it after all this time.

Those are really horrible to look. All dresses looking exceptional with some nice cartoon! Some awesome dresses may also increase the view of festival.
